Why women are jerks on V-Day...

Have you ever noticed how competitive women get on Valentine's Day? We can't help it, Valentine's Day is like the ___________( <-- insert major men's sporting event of your choice) for women!

I'll bet if you check your news feed on Facebook you will see that it is being flooded by women uploading pictures and comments on how wonderful their significant others are and exactly what/how their honey "surprised" them.

Why do we do that? Because Valentine's Day is a competition and we need to see who is winning. Even more importantly, we need to let other women know that we were not forgotten, that we too have someone who cares about us. And furthermore, that our someone is WAY more thoughtful than yours!

I'm not casting stones here, I am no better myself! I made sure that my husband sent me a lovely edible arrangement at my office (I confess, I chose it myself) so that I would have something Valentinesy on my desk when all the other ladies had something on their desks.

I'm pretty sure I beat out all the competition, and I am just jerk enough to admit it!

Question of the day: Have you ever (or would you ever) sent yourself a gift on Valentine's Day?

Other question of the day: What is the most obnoxious thing about Valentine's Day?

  1. I have not ever sent myself something for Valentine's Day... but now that you mention it, I probably will next year. Thanks, you jerk!

  2. LOL. I love that you compare Valentine's Day to a sporting event. When you sit back and analyze, it pretty much is! I've never sent myself a v-day gift, and probably never will, but buying yourself a treat on v-day, totally up for that. :)

Also, I think the most obnoxious thing on v-day are the people who bash on it. People aren't "sell outs" or "giving in" to the pressure of getting a gift for their loved one just because candy and greeting card companies say you have to. It's just a day to remember your loved one(s) and appreciate them. Buying something is not necessary because you can show your love/appreciation in other ways. Also, so what if you don't have a significant other to share the day with. I spent the day with friends and family and had a great time. So.. I'm a jerk because I think people need to suck it up!
